Welcome to On Being Human.
On Being Human exists to share personal experiences of mental health difficulties and challenging life experiences.
Australia has strong community awareness regarding the prevalence of mental health conditions, and campaigns regularly encourage people to talk about mental health. On Being Human exists to facilitate more detailed accounts of human experience.
There will be sharers both with and without a mental health diagnosis; people who identify with labels and those who do not.
You may find some details confronting. If you see an article topic and you are unsure about reading it, think about if you are mentally in the right place to do so. Think about the resources you need to stay well – a mental health professional, a helpline, friends, family, partners, pets, distractions, meditation – these are just some examples. If you feel that the content of a story may be too much right now, protect your wellbeing and consider not reading it, or reading it another time.
Each story is named by the main themes, for ease of navigation and for readers to anticipate any potentially triggering content.
It is hoped that readers can find comfort in a common human experience and maybe learn something new.
